THE REAL JESUS

HERE ARE SOME RELEVANT BIBLE VERSES:

“[Jesus Christ is speaking to His disciples] If ye had known me, ye should have known my

Father also: and from henceforth ye know Him, and have seen Him. (Vs. 8) Philip saith unto Him, ‘Lord, shew [i.e., show] us the Father, and it sufficeth [i.e., will satisfy] us.’   (Vs. 9) Jesus saith unto him, ‘Have I been so long time with you, and yet hast thou not known me, Philip? He that hath seen me hath seen the Father; and how sayest thou then, Shew [i.e., show] us the Father?   (Vs. 10) Believest thou not that I am in the Father, and the Father in me? The words that I speak unto you I speak not of myself: but the Father that dwelleth in me, He doeth the works.   (Vs. 11) Believe me that I am in the Father, and the Father in me: or else believe me for the very works’ sake.’” – John 14:7-11

“[Jesus Christ is speaking] I and my Father are ONE.” – John 10:30

“The LORD is a man of war: the LORD is His name.” – Exodus 15:3

“Then said He [i.e., Jesus Christ] unto them [i.e., His disciples], ‘But now, he that hath a purse, let him take it, and likewise his scrip [i.e., small bag; wallet]; and he that hath no sword, let him sell his garment, and buy one [i.e., a sword].’” – Luke 22:36

“And the Word [i.e., Jesus Christ] was made flesh, and dwelt among us – John 1:14a.

“[Jesus Christ is speaking] If ye love me, keep my commandments.” – John 14:15

  1. INTRODUCTION

Who is the real Jesus Christ? Some movies have had wimpy, almost effeminate-type male actors in the role of Jesus Christ. Many churches present a nice, sweet Jesus who is non-judgmental, and who is ‘love’ and only ‘love’. Is this the ONLY picture that the Holy Bible, the Word of God, gives us of Jesus Christ?

Was the Lord Jesus Christ always meek, mild, and gentle? Did He spend all His time going around kissing babies and patting little children on their heads? Was He tolerant of sin? Did He ever challenge the religious and political leaders of His day?

II. JESUS CHRIST – WHO IS HE?

“[Jesus Christ is speaking] I and my Father are ONE.” – John 10:30

Editor of ETI is not a “theologian”, nor does he in any way pretend to understand how “there is only ONE God, yet He is revealed to us in three manifestations (Father, Son, and Holy Spirit)”. All three manifestations of God are clearly seen in the Holy Bible.

First, not being a “theologian” is not bad, since a whole lot of today’s theologians are LIBERAL theologians” whose God is NOT the God of the Holy Bible! ((NOTE: The main goal of many of these “liberal theologians” has been to “water down” the Word of God, and to neutralize the Church.)) I am but a very poor Christian who has studied through the entire Bible enough times to know that many prominent “theologians” are anti-God (of the Holy Bible). These “liberal theologians” regularly “twist” Scriptures to their own purposes, or they “conveniently” ignore many key Scripture verses that would challenge today’s Christians to stand against evil, corruption, and tyranny!

Secondly, I’ve heard some of the “analogies” about the “Trinity”, such as “water, steam, and ice”, etc. We humans cannot even come close to comprehending God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit! Our brains are simply too small, and our time on this planet is not nearly sufficient to even begin to understand the mysteries of an Almighty Creator GOD who rules in the heavens and on earth – although He has given the Devil a “short leash” for temporary control of the world’s political and religious powers!

This I do know: The religious and political powers of Christ’s day knew exactly who Jesus Christ claimed to be, and they were ready to literally “stone Him” for such statements as:

  • “I and my Father are ONE.” (John 10:30)
  • “Verily, verily, I say unto you, Before Abraham was, I am [i.e., I was in existence].” (John 8:58)

((NOTE: Please remember that the religious and political leaders were the ones who had Jesus Christ crucified – but more on that later.))

By the way, when Christ asked the Apostle Peter who he thought Jesus Christ was, he responded: “Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God.” (Matthew 16:16)

The Holy Bible clearly lets us know that Jesus Christ, the Son of the living God, is also known as the “Word of God”:

  • The Apostle John tells us: “And the Word [i.e., Jesus Christ] was made flesh, and dwelt among us (John 1:14a.)
  • In Revelation (Apocalypse) 19:13, the Apostle John writes concerning Jesus Christ: “And He was clothed with a vesture dipped in blood: and His name is called The Word of God.”
  • Again the Apostle John tells us in John 1:1 that “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.”

Jesus Christ is clearly THE WORD OF GOD, and the Holy Bible is the written record of God’s words to us human beings. The Holy Bible is the “operating manual” for the human soul!

((Important NOTE: We Christians put our souls in danger of hell fire when we “trust” Church leaders to decide what portions of the Holy Word they dispense to us – and their “interpretations” of God’s Word! We ought all to be like the noble Bereans described in the Holy Bible who were commended because they did NOT “trust” men’s explanations on what was written in God’s Word, but rather they “searched the Scriptures daily, whether those things were so.” Please see Acts of the Apostles 17:10, 11.))

III. JESUS CHRIST – CONFRONTING THE AUTHORITIES

A. Driving the moneychangers out of the Temple

Most Bible scholars agree from the accounts recorded in the gospels of the New Testament that Jesus Christ twice drove the moneychangers out of the Temple . One time He made a whip out of cords to use on these moneychangers who ripped the people off when converting their various currencies into the Temple currency. ((The common people were required to convert their local currencies into Temple currency in order to buy the animals and birds that they needed for sacrifices at the Temple , and for the Temple tax.))

By the way, the moneychangers worked for the High Priest and his family! ((Question: Do any of the major Christian denominations today own banks and other financial institutions and lots of property, to include art treasures and precious metals?))

B. Castigating the religious leaders of His day

While Jesus Christ had mercy on individual sinners, He never condoned sin. Indeed, He saved His greatest rebukes – His harshest words – for the wicked religious leaders of His day! The top religious leaders of Christ’s day would be equivalent to the Pope, his cardinals, and his archbishops of our day.

In fact, Jesus Christ called these phony, pompous, proud religious scoundrels (i.e., leaders) such names as “hypocrites”, “whited [i.e., whitewashed] sepulchers”, “vipers”, “blind guides”, “fools”, etc. ((Please read Matthew 23:1-36 – it contains the account of one of Jesus Christ’s harshest attacks on the “religious establishment”.))

Jesus Christ told these phony, pompous, proud religious leaders that they had made “the commandment of God of none effect” because of their tradition! ((Please see Matthew 15:3-6.)) In fact, He asked these religious leaders, “Why do ye also transgress the commandment of God by your tradition?” (Matthew 15:3)

((Question: How is it that fallible men (to include popes) think that they can override God’s Word with their “traditions”?   What unmitigated gall!))

It was Jesus Christ’s stinging verbal assaults against the “religious establishment” that helped pave His road to the cross! You see, the entire “religious establishment” felt gravely threatened by the words of this simple itinerant preacher from Galilee ! Their monopoly on “religious power” over the people was indeed being gravely threatened by the truth!

And so, a classic pattern that we have seen throughout history was played out in Roman-occupied Judea : “church” and “State” joined hands to murder the innocent. The “religious establishment” put a full-court press on the “State” (i.e., the Roman authorities) to have the Son of the living God crucified on a wooden cross! Later, popes would frequently do likewise as they pressured the “State” to slaughter entire populations of simple Christian farmers and peasants who refused to recognize “papal authority”. The Church falsely called these innocent people “heretics”. Large numbers of Albigenses, Waldenses, French Huguenots, etc., were tortured, butchered, and slaughtered like farm animals by both papal and “State” armies, simply because the “religious establishment’s monopoly” (i.e., papal authority) was threatened! Indeed, “inquisitions”, “holy crusades”, “religious wars”, and outright “religious genocide” reigned throughout Europe for centuries because truth threatened the “religious establishment”.

((QUESTIONS: Are things any different today? Does truth still threaten the “religious establishment”? Would the “religious establishment” try to crucify Jesus Christ again if He returned to earth tomorrow?))

IV. JESUS CHRIST – BUYING SWORDS

Some “liberal theologians”, along with some Hollywood movies, have portrayed Jesus Christ as some sort of pacifist. Nothing could be farther from the truth! (See also Section V.)

Jesus Christ, the Son of God, HAD to go to the cross in order to offer sinful man a chance at redemption through His shed blood. That is why Jesus Christ did not resist those who came to arrest Him. Jesus Christ had a divine appointment with a cross, and so He submitted to His Father’s plan to provide a “way” back for sinful man to the Heavenly Father.

But Jesus Christ never expected His followers to “roll over” and submit to those trying to murder them! He knew that after He returned to the Father, that murderous thugs – including thugs within the organized church – would rise up and attempt to slaughter His followers.

The “sword” mentioned in Luke 22:36 at the beginning of this section is equivalent to the “handgun” of today. Jesus Christ made this statement shortly before His crucifixion. I highly doubt that many pastors or priests preach on this particular Bible verse. Clearly the Lord Jesus Christ knows the future, and He knew the time would very soon come when His followers would need to have the means to defend themselves. This issue of ETI does not permit an in-depth study of our God-given RIGHT to defend ourselves. I addressed this issue in some depth in an earlier ETI newsletter (#9) entitled “Do Christians Owe Unlimited Submission to Civil Government?” ((You should be able to find that ETI issue on one of the Internet web sites mentioned at the beginning of this newsletter. If you would like to read in more depth about the right of the Christian to defend himself, then I highly suggest you get a copy of Pastor John Weaver’s book The Christian and Civil Government. Please see the end of this newsletter for information on how to order it.))

The bottom line on all this is that the Holy Bible in no way prohibits self-defense. In fact, warfare by a nation is permitted in self-defense or in a RIGHTEOUS cause – as long as such warfare follows the guidelines carefully laid out in the Holy Bible! Our Creator God allows the animals He created to defend their young and themselves from attack – and that self-defense “mechanism” was “programmed” into these animals by their Creator God. Would God allow the lower animals to defend themselves, but not allow mankind – His greatest creation on earth – to defend themselves? It is ridiculous to “assume” that He wouldn’t allow us to defend ourselves – even against governmental tyranny or ecclesiastical tyranny!

((NOTE: By the way, small groups of armed Christians fought against ecclesiastical tyranny in the form of papal and/or State armies, often defeating much, much larger forces made up of professional soldiers. Some small groups of the Waldenses and the Scottish Covenanters come to mind. These small groups of armed Christians, often made up only of simple farmers and peasants, frequently defeated professional armies sent against them by the “Church” and the State! If God was against His people defending themselves – even against papal armies, then WHY did He give great military victories to these farmers and peasants over professional soldiers? After all, these armies had often been given papal blessings before setting out to slaughter innocent people falsely accused of being “heretics”.))

V. JESUS CHRIST – A MAN OF WAR?

“The LORD is a man of war: the LORD is His name.” – Exodus 15:3

“[King David is speaking] Blessed be the LORD my strength, which teacheth my hands to war, and my fingers to fight.” – Psalm 144:1

It is probably important to point out here and now that we Christians have ONE Bible, not two (i.e., the Old Testament and the New Testament = ONE Bible)! The Apostle Paul, writing under the inspiration of Almighty God, in II Timothy 3:16, 17 tells us the following: ALL Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: (Verse 17) That the man of God may be perfect [i.e., complete], thoroughly furnished unto all good works.”

Jesus Christ told His disciple Philip (and through that Bible account all of us Christians): “He that hath seen me hath seen the Father.”   As best as I can put it, the Jesus Christ of the New Testament is but a reflection of His Father God. The GOD of the Old Testament is the GOD of the New Testament as well!

One of Almighty God’s titles (names) is “The LORD of hosts”. The word “hosts” means “armies”. This title/name is seen frequently in the Old Testament. We must also never forget that Exodus 15:3 states: “The LORD is a man of war: the LORD is His name.”

In the book of Revelation (the Apocalypse), Chapter 19, Jesus Christ is described as riding on a white horse, “clothed with a vesture dipped in blood, and followed by the armies which were in heaven”. His mission is described as: “to smite the nations”. This is, of course, describing His return to planet Earth to rule, and it describes a great warrior King!

King David, a mighty warrior whose exploits included the slaying of a giant named Goliath, stated under the inspiration of Almighty God: “Blessed be the LORD my strength, which teacheth my hands to war, and my fingers to fight.” David, a man after God’s heart, knew WHO it was that had made him a great warrior!

Throughout history mighty Christian warriors have risen up to fight both governmental and ecclesiastical tyranny!

((NOTE: This topic was discussed much more in depth in my ETI #13, date: January 16, 2004 , entitled “WANTED: More Brave Christian Soldiers”.))

VI. FOLLOWING JESUS CHRIST & OBEYING HIS COMMANDS!

[Jesus Christ is speaking] If ye love me, keep [i.e., obey] my commandments.”

(John 14:15)

[The Apostle Paul is speaking] Be ye followers [i.e., imitators] of me, even as I also am [i.e., a follower, imitator] of Christ.” – I Corinthians 11:1

Being a follower (an imitator) of Jesus Christ (i.e., being a real Christian) means obeying all the commandments of a Holy GOD! Such commandments include, but are not limited to:

  • Defend the poor and fatherless: do justice to the afflicted and needy. (Verse 4) Deliver the poor and needy: rid them out of [i.e., rescue them from] the hand of the wicked.” (Psalm 82:3, 4)
  • “If thou forbear [i.e., refrain from; avoid (doing)] to deliver them that are drawn unto death, and those that are ready to be slain; (Verse 12) If thou sayest, Behold, we knew it not; doth not He that pondereth the heart consider it? And He that keepeth thy soul, doth not He know it? And shall not He render to every man according to his works? (Proverbs 24:11, 12)
  • OPEN THY MOUTH for the dumb in the cause of all such as are appointed to destruction.   (Verse 9) OPEN THY MOUTH, judge righteously, and plead the cause of the poor and needy.” (Proverbs 31: 8, 9)

Would not such commands include the saving of innocent babies being murdered under “operation abortion”? Would not such commands include the saving of innocent people like Terri Schindler Schiavo?

We are to be obeying all of God’s commands if we are to consider ourselves “good Christians”! I wonder, is there enough “evidence” to “convict” in a “court of law” most of us who call ourselves Christians of really being a Christian?

((NOTE: This topic was covered much more in depth in ETI #12, date: January 15, 2004 , entitled “Do Unto Others”.))

VII. SUMMARY

The real Jesus Christ is the Son of the living God who came in the flesh to manifest the Father God to us. He is returning as a warrior King! He is the WORD OF GOD. He is the LORD of hosts (armies)! He is “the way, the truth, and the life”, and He said that “no man cometh unto the Father, but by [i.e., through] HIM! (See John 14:6.)

The real Jesus Christ, while on this planet Earth and while in His fleshly body, was a real man! He challenged the corrupt political and religious leaders of His day, castigating them in public! He saved his greatest “venom” for the phony, pompous, proud religious leaders! He told them the truth about their “traditions” – how through their “traditions” they had made “the commandment of God of none effect”.

Peter and the other apostles stood up to the religious leaders of their day, boldly telling those religious authorities who had threatened them:

“But [the Apostles] Peter and John answered and said unto them, Whether it be right in the sight of God to hearken unto you [i.e., the rulers, elders, scribes and high priest – see Acts 4:5, 6] more than unto God, judge ye.” (Acts 4:19 )

“Then [the Apostle] Peter and the other apostles answered [the high priest, the council, and all the senate of the children of Israel ] and said, ‘We ought to obey God rather than men.’” (Acts 5:29 )

Should we Christians of today do less? If we are truly followers [imitators] of Jesus Christ, then should we not also, like our Master, expose and rebuke evil – even when it occurs in the government or in the Church? If we truly love Jesus Christ, then shouldn’t we be obeying all of His commandments?

VIII. SOME FINAL THOUGHTS

We all need to admit to ourselves that the mainline Christian denominations have been infiltrated and taken over by “liberal theologians” and other social change agents. Several large Protestant denominations have been heavily infiltrated by Freemasonry, and the Roman Catholic Church has been controlled by the Jesuit Order and P-2 Masonry for decades – if not centuries, except for very brief periods of time. We absolutely cannot trust the “Churches” to give us all the key truth of the Holy Bible. We had all better become students of the Holy Bible so that we will better be able to recognize the “wolves” in our midst.

State and Church have combined for horrible genocide and persecution against true lovers of freedom and true believers in Christ for centuries. It happened as recently as the 1940s in Croatia , where the Roman Catholic Church, in cooperation with Fascist State authorities, orchestrated a horrible genocide against Serb Orthodox Christians, murdering between 600,000 to one million of them. History does repeat itself; it could happen here in America .

IX. WHAT CAN WE DO?

  1. Study the Holy Bible, pray fervently, and seek God’s guidance for your life!
  2. If you want to learn more about Jesus Christ, then please read both the Old and the New Testaments! It is very difficult to get the “full picture” of God’s character without studying the entire Holy Bible! (Plus, a lot of prophecy in the Old Testament points to Jesus Christ.)
  3. If you think that this issue of the ETI newsletter is important, then please make as many copies of it as you possibly can, and give them away to as many folks as you possibly can.
  4. Check out other ETI and TTT newsletters on www.tacklingthetoughtopics.net and on www.calltodecision.com.
  5. If you would like to learn more about the Christian’s responsibility towards civil government, or the Christian’s right of self-defense, then I most highly recommend that you purchase a copy of the excellent book The Christian and Civil Government by Pastor John Weaver.
