National Draft

“America goes not abroad in search of monsters [Ed. of TTT Note: such as Saddam (Goldstein) Hussein and Osama Bin (Goldstein) Laden???] to destroy. She is the well-wisher to the freedom and independence of all. She is the champion and vindicator only of her own. She well knows that by once enlisting under other [Ed. Note: NATO, the United Nations???] banners than her own, were they even the banners of foreign independence, she would involve herself beyond the power of extrication in all the wars of interest and intrigue, of individual avarice, envy and ambition, which assume the colors of patriotism and usurp the standards of freedom.”

John Quincy Adams, (1767-1848; Sixth President of the United States) (From his address for Independence Day, 1821) ((Note: Goldstein was the “bogeyman” in the book 1984))

“Observe good faith and justice toward all nations. Cultivate peace and harmony with all… The Nation which indulges toward another an habitual hatred or an habitual fondness is in some degree a slave. It is a slave to its animosity or to its affection, either of which is sufficient to lead it astray from its duty and its interest…

It is our true policy to steer clear of permanent alliances, with any portion of the foreign world.” – George Washington (1732-1799; 1st President of the United States; Commander-in-Chief of the colonial armies in the American Revolution)

(Excerpt taken from Washington’s “Farewell Address” in 1796) ((Ed. of TTT Note: We would have been wise to have followed George Washington’s advice!))

“We recognize the new order in the world…But America, our America, the America built on the foundation laid by the inspired [founding] fathers, can be a party to no permanent military alliance…Every commitment must be made in the exercise of our national sovereignty. Since freedom impelled, and independence inspired, and nationality exalted, a world super government is contrary to everything we cherish and can have no sanction by our Republic. This is not selfishness, it is sanctity. It is not aloofness, it is security. It is not suspicion of others, it is patriotic adherence to the things which made us what we are…”

Warren G. Harding ((1865-1923; 29th President of the United States (1921-23))

(From his inaugural address in 1921)

“I want to know who the men in the shadows are,

I want to hear somebody asking them ‘Why?’ –

They can be counted on to tell us who are enemies are,

But they’re never the ones to fight or to die.”

Jackson Brown (musician) (From the song, “Lives in the Balance”)

“The normal profits of a business concern in the United States are six, eight, ten, and sometimes twelve percent. But war-time profits – ah! That is another matter – TWENTY, SIXTY, ONE HUNDRED, THREE HUNDRED, and even EIGHTEEN HUNDRED PER CENT – the SKY is the limit.

Of course, it isn’t put that crudely in war time. It is dressed into speeches about patriotism, love of country, and ‘we must all put our shoulders to the wheel’, but the PROFITS jump and leap and skyrocket – and are safely pocketed.

In the World War [i.e., World War I] a mere handful garnered the PROFITS of the conflict. At least 21,000 new MILLIONAIRES and BILLIONAIRES were made in the United States during the World War. How many of these WAR MILLIONAIRES shouldered a rifle? …dug a trench? …knew what it meant to go hungry in a rat-infested dug-out? …spent sleepless, frightened nights, ducking shells and shrapnel and machine gun bullets? …parried a bayonet thrust of an enemy? …were wounded or killed in battle?”

Smedley D. Butler (1881-1940; Major General, U.S. Marine Corps, Retired; double Medal of Honor recipient)

“The GENERAL PUBLIC shoulders the bill [for war]. The bill renders a horrible accounting: newly placed gravestones; mangled bodies; shattered minds; broken hearts and homes; economic instability; depression and all its attendant miseries; back-breaking taxation for generations and generations.” – Smedley D. Butler

“Those looking ahead to war [are] NOT the people – NOT those who fight and pay and die…” – Smedley D. Butler

[War] pays high dividends. But what does [war] profit the men who are killed? What does it profit their mothers and sisters, their wives and their sweethearts? What does it profit their children? Yes, and what does it profit the nation?” – Smedley D. Butler

((Ed. of TTT Note: Speaking about World War I)) “We used PROPAGANDA to make the boys accept conscription. They were made to feel ashamed if they didn’t join the Army. So vicious was this war PROPAGANDA that even God was brought into it. With few exceptions our clergymen joined in the CLAMOR to KILL, KILL, KILL.” – Smedley D. Butler

“War is a racket fought by the common man for the benefit of the rich and powerful.”

Smedley D. Butler

“This conjunction of an immense military establishment and a large arms industry is new in the American experience. We must GUARD AGAINST the acquisition of unwarranted INFLUENCE, whether sought or unsought, by THE MILITARY-INDUSTRIAL COMPLEX. The POTENTIAL for the DISASTROUS RISE of misplaced power exists and will persist.”

Dwight D. Eisenhower (1890-1969; 34th President of the United States)

(Statement from his farewell address in 1961)

“They thought to die for their country; they died for the industrialists.”

Anatole France (1844-1924; French novelist & literary critic)

“I have estimated that the bankers made about $75 MILLION out of the American Revolution. They made about $125 MILLION out of the War of 1812-14. They made about $3 BILLION out of the Civil War [Ed. of TTT Note: of 1861-65; known to some as “The War for Southern Independence”]. They [i.e., the bankers] made about $30 BILLION out of the First World War. And the amount of profit they made out of the Second World War simply defies comprehending and staggers the imagination. It runs into the TRILLIONS of dollars.”

Dr. Martin A. Larson (Statement made in a presentation to the Arizona Breakfast Club)

War is the greatest plague that can afflict humanity. It destroys religion; it destroys states; it destroys families. Any scourge is preferable to it.”

Martin Luther (1483-1546; German theologian & Protestant Reformer)

“You cannot qualify war in harsher terms than I will. War is CRUELTY, and you cannot refine it.” (In a letter dated September 12, 1864)

William Tecumseh Sherman (1820-1891; Union general in the Civil War)

“War is at best BARBARISM… It is only those who have NEITHER fired a shot [in battle], NOR heard the shrieks and groans of the wounded, who cry aloud for blood, more vengeance, more desolation. WAR IS HELL!(Statement made in 1879)

William Tecumseh Sherman

“Can anything be more ridiculous than that a man has a right to kill me because he dwells on the other side of the water, and because his prince [government] has a quarrel with mine, although I have none with him?”

Blaise Pascal (1623-1662; French mathematician, physicist & philosopher)

First, let’s get one thing clear: Editor of TTT is a 20-year military veteran who is NOT anti-war. I served in both the U.S. Air Force and the U.S. Army. I flew on dangerous airborne reconnaissance missions where “enemy” fighters from time to time tried to shoot down our unarmed reconnaissance aircraft that were over international waters.

I believe that there are “just” wars – wars where we defend the borders of our American Republic, or where we fight for the REAL “national interests” of America – and not for the interests of “corporate America”.

We have American servicemen and servicewomen serving all over the globe. Our U.S. military is tied down in both Iraq and Afghanistan, sustaining near daily casualties. Many of our combat troops are out of this country. What happens if we get involved in a couple more wars (such as Iran or Syria, or even North Korea)? I’ll tell you what will happen – a national draft will happen!

Various proposals on legislation concerning a national draft have been floating around the halls of Congress for months. One of the proposals is for a universal draft (that means woman as well as men) for ages 18 through 49.

Should such legislation be enacted, it will mean that American families will be seeing their daughters, granddaughters, sisters, young mothers, etc., going off to war. The exposing of America’s females to combat is “insane” – and it is, in my opinion, un-American and STUPID. ((Hopefully, I’ll have more to say on that topic in Section III.))

Editor of TTT strongly believes that if this American Republic limits itself to fighting only “just” wars that are genuinely in America’s best national interests, then we should easily be able to get by with an all-volunteer army (and the rest of the military services). If, however, we continue to “stick our noses” into just about every nation’s business on this planet – and if we continue to try to serve as the “policeman of the world” – and if we continue to feel that we have some sort of “divine right” to go all around the globe making “regime changes” – well, then, a national draft (or universal draft) is INEVITABLE. Has the LORD God Almighty died and left some sort of “will” stating that America is to be the “world’s policeman”, or the “military arm of NATO”, or the “military arm of the United Nations”? I do NOT think that has occurred.

America’s so-called “War on Terrorism” is creating more and more terrorists willing to sacrifice their lives in order to take American lives. As we run around the world bombing other nations into “the Stone Age”, such as Serbia and Iraq, we create the conditions that cause millions and millions of Slavs, Orthodox Christians, Arabs, and Moslems to HATE our guts. Have any of our “fearless leaders” figured out yet that there are between one BILLION and 1.2 BILLION Moslems in the world? Haven’t our “fearless leaders’ figured out yet that our continued military occupation of such countries as Iraq and Afghanistan is causing much of both the Arab World and the Islamic World to HATE our guts? Don’t they realize that the image of America in much of the world is that of a bully who stomps you if you don’t jump when he says to jump? Or could it be that our “fearless leaders” know exactly what they are doing with this military intervention all around the globe?

This 20-year military veteran agrees with such founding fathers as George Washington that we ought to be very careful about getting involved in foreign conflicts!

The idea of “women in combat” or in “combat support” roles is STUPID. Despite claims to the contrary, women in combat has never worked well anywhere throughout modern history.

Let’s face facts, please. Women and men think differently, and women and men are different physically. It does not take a rocket scientist or medical doctor to figure this out. Men, in general, have much more upper body strength than women. Men, in general, can carry much heavier loads over much longer distances. Men, in general, have a “warrior mentality” that can be drawn on in wartime – most women do not.

A military unit moves as fast as its slowest member or members. Women in general cannot keep up with the men in a combat or combat support unit carrying heavy loads and traveling over rough terrain for long distances on foot. Thus, a unit may fail in its mission or be destroyed if it cannot move on foot fast enough to the desired location. Also, sanitation “in the field” is a much more difficult situation for women than it is for men.

Additionally, being a prisoner-of-war (POW) is bad enough for men – it is absolutely horrible for women. Whether we like to admit it or not, rape is extremely prevalent during wartime. Female prisoners are almost guaranteed some sort of sexual assault if held long enough in captivity – if not immediately upon being captured.

Knowing all this, why in blazes did the American military leadership ever accept women in combat or combat support roles? And do we Americans really WANT to see our sisters, daughters, granddaughters, and other female relatives exposed to the horrors of war?

Oh, before I forget: Some folks make the argument that women can serve in combat support roles where they will be safe in “rear areas”. That might have worked in World War I where there was trench warfare and fairly “fixed lines” between opposing forces. However, on the modern battlefield, with fast-moving armored forces – with airborne and air assault forces – there are often no “fixed” battle lines. The battlefield is extremely fluid, and someone in a “rear area” can find himself (or herself) in the middle of combat in a matter of minutes with little to no warning. ((Helicopters can fly in and drop troops pretty darn quickly!))

America needs an all-volunteer military with only men in combat and combat support roles. Short of World War III, we do NOT need, nor should we accept, a national draft. And we absolutely should NOT accept a universal draft that drafts American females into the military under ANY circumstances, including World War III.

Editor of TTT has a “novel” idea: Why don’t we bring home the majority of our military forces overseas and use them to protect our “open borders” and stop a whole bunch of the illegal immigration! That might also slow down the flow of terrorists who are probably coming across our southern border with Mexico.

Whatever we Americans do, we had better begin speaking out loudly now about this national or universal draft. Once we get into some more wars with countries such as Iran, Syria, and/or North Korea, it will be TOO LATE. All the American flags will be flying, the yellow ribbons will be tied around many trees, and “patriotic fervor” will dictate that most people keep their mouths shut about their children, grandchildren, etc., being used as “cannon fodder” in a hundred or more different places all around the globe. Now is the time to speak out!

1. The first thing that we cannot afford to do is “nothing”. Now is the time to call, write, fax, and/or e-mail our Congressmen and Senators and tell them what we think about a national draft or a universal national draft that would take our American females and place them in harm’s way!

2. Get informed about what is really going on in the world and in this Republic. The establishment-CONTROLLED mainstream media in America keeps a whole lot of truth from the American people. Here are some of the best web sites that Editor of TTT has found for great news and analysis of what is really going on in America and in the world:
